All participants and occupants of their boats registering for the Hunt for Reds October do so voluntarily and at their own risk. Each registered participant agrees to release and hold tournament officials, sponsors, and all others connected directly or indirectly with the said tournament from any liability, libel, slander, loss, damage, negligence, injury, harm, or death suffered by any participant during the tournament.

Hunt for Reds October holds the right to take photos of all the tournament activities, the weigh-in and the winning team and/or /individuals. As a registered tournament participant, it is understood that you give permission to the Hunt for Reds October entity to use tournament photos whether printed or digitally reproduced, for future publicity, press releases, brochures and flyers, website content and promotions, advertising pieces and marketing campaigns as well as usage on our Hunt for Reds October dedicated Facebook pages. Should the hold-harmless statement or the photograph permission release pose a problem, contact.

All contestants are expected to obey all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and laws. Violation of such rules may result in your disqualification from the tournament. You must have a valid fishing license with a saltwater stamp. If paying for a Fishing Guide, the guide must be USCG and TPWD licensed.

Safe boating should always be observed. Follow all City, State and Federal boating laws. Life jackets are required onboard by law and are recommended to be worn while under way. Tournament day may be shortened or rescheduled due to unsafe weather or water conditions. The decision to shorten or to cancel will be left totally to the discretion of the Tournament Committee.

Tournament Day fishing times. The official time to commence fishing will be announced at the Meeting at 7:00pm on 10/06/2023. Fishing may not commence any earlier than ½ hour before sunrise. When to quit fishing is up to you, but make sure you can make it to the weigh in line on time.  Weigh Opens at 12:00pm and Closes at 2:00pm. Awards Ceremony immediately after final weigh in is calculated (3:30pm).

Contestants may fish anywhere on “tournament waters” accessible to the public by boat, except areas designated as “off limits” or “no fishing” by private ownership or local, state, and federal regulations. Contestants may not fish within 100 yards of the Port Aransas Ferry Landings.

Tournament Waters are all waterways, bays, lakes, rivers, bayous, canals, ditches, marshes, and tidal flats. This will be covered at the meeting.

All fish must be caught by means of rod and reel. Anyone may cast, but you must hook it and reel it in all by yourself. (Someone may net it for you) Fishing must be performed by means of boat or wade fishing. No fishing from piers, shore or jetties is permitted.

  • A Licensed Capt. is part of a couple an must sign up in Guided Division

Guided Division 

  • Couple (2 Persons) if you hire a  Professional Guide (if you want or need a guide please see book your charter this website)(your not under any obligations to use the guides on our website.) You must register under Guided Division.

Non-Guided Division 

  • Couple Only (2 Person)

Team Awards Guided:

  • Overall (Stringer, Largest, Most Spots)
  • Heaviest Stringer (3 slot Reds 20-28″)
  • Largest Red (weight & length)
  • Spots (most spots on red)

Team Awards Non-Guided:

  • Overall (Stringer, Largest, Most Spots)
  • Heaviest Stringer (3 slot Reds 20-28″)
  • Largest Red (weight & Length)

Calcutta Rules: 

  1. Calcutta (Bidding) begins immediately after 7:00 pm contestants meeting.
  2. Only teams that participate in the Calcutta are eligible to win monies.
  3. The overall winner will be the particpating team with best of:
    • Heaviest Stringer (3 fish)
    • Longest & Heaviest Red
    • Spots (most)
    • If your team chooses to get into the Calcutta then your team will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. The bidder is betting that your team will  catch a total amount of heaviest stringer, largest and most spots.  You or anyone else who is present at the captains meeting/ Calcutta has the opportunity to bid on your boat. Bidding starts at $100 and there is no cap on how high the bid can go.If you win the bid on your team and your team is overall  in the Calcutta category of the tournament, then you win half of the prize money and your bidder wins the other half (less 20% for tournament expenses).The minimum bid starts $100.00. To be in the Calcutta your team or someone else needs to bid at least a $100.00 on your team.The Calcutta is cash only.

In Case of a tie the draw of cards wins.
